The spoils of the boom in the stock market are trickling down to the next door cyber cafés. The volatility in the stock exchange notwithstanding, these cafes have registered a sharp surge in clientele and income, thanks to all those hooked on to the high and lows of the Sensex. These internet shops have registered a rise of around 20% to 25% in their income as investors spend hours learning the nuances of the trade. Happy at this turn of events, cyber café owners are even offering special packages to regular customers - mostly traders -during the trading session.President of the cyber café owners association, Ahmedabad, Navin Shah said, "We have introduced special price packages ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 15 per hour in place of the usual rate of Rs 30 per hour. Due to increase in online trading through cyber cafés, there is a rise in income by around 20% to 25%."A lot of small stock traders have made a base at these cafes which were fighting for survival, doubly hit by declining customers as well as security issues about online trading sites. The traders say that the security issues are taken care of by the online trading companies. "However, some amount of risk is always there in online trading, whether we trade from café or home," says a Vadodara trader. Encouraged by the introduction of online trading facilities provided by various trading companies, small investors are using cyber cafés to trade as well as exchange tips on chat forums during trading sessions. Naimish Patel, an internet shop owner said, "Most of the computers are occupied during the trading hours." Dhiren Shah, a marketing professional, said "I am in the field for the whole day, but I keep a tab on the stock market through SMSes and as soon as I get a tip on some stock, I step into a nearby café." Jinesh Bhatt, relationship manager at India Infoline, said, "Customers do operate from cyber cafés as they do not have time to sit at the company franchise office during the trading hours."
