The exhibition displaying the works of final year students of Master of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts in MSU started under strict security watch on the varsity premises on Monday. During the three-day display, no outsider will be allowed to even enter the premises. Special security officials have been deployed to ensure there was no trespassing. In May 2007, there was chaos in the Faculty of Fine Arts when some intruders, apparently BJP and VHP activists, had vandalized the exhibition hall. To check a replay of the incident, the varsity authorities have warned against entertaining outside elements on the premises during the exhibition period. Since morning today, the security guards took their position at the entry gates of the Fine Arts faculty and checked the I-cards of the students while allowing the faculty members and the jury for the exhibition after proper identification. Dean of the Faculty Deepak Kannal said, "The display of art works is a part of the final examination of the students and is actually an academic exercise. The jury will look at the displayed works of the students. We had a system that during the exams, no outsider should be allowed but this time we have followed it strictly. We don't want any negligence this time." The dean also confirmed that additional security guards have been deployed to monitor the situation. Around 100 students from various departments are displaying their skills through their works. They will get final marks on their creations. According to the faculty authorities, the first three days of the display would be reserved for the jury while the fourth day would be open for visitors.Notices have been pasted on the faculty doors stating that no student or faculty member should entertain or allow any outsider or photographer at the exhibition hall. "We want to systematize things," said Kannal. "I am taking these strict actions for the good of around 500 students in the faculty," he added. The students, whose works are being displayed, said, "The precautionary measures bythe faculty officials havehelped us display our creative works without fear. We are now not afraid of any intrudersthis year."
