Hypnosis may prove boon for AIDS patients
The therapy is widely used in helping people get rid of various kinds of addictions and phobia
Maulik Buch. Vadodara
There is some good news for the patients suffering from AIDS and HIV+. The Centre for Thoughtronics, M S University of Vadodara is conducting a research on the effect of hypnotherapy on the progression of AIDS (through CD4 count and Plasma viral load), and on psychological parameters like mental health, depression and well-being of people suffering from the disease. To start with, the university has allowed only 40 persons suffering from the disease to be the part of the research. Hypnosis and hypnotic suggestion have been a part of healing from ancient times. Today, it is widely used for addictions, such as smoking and drug use, for pain controls and for phobia, such as the fear of flying. Within the framework of mind-body connection, psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) is the scientific study of the interaction among the emotions, brain, and the immune system, some of the body's most complex systems. It springs from healing traditions that are both ancient and modem. The emotions (the psyche), the neurological system (the brain, spinal cord and other nervous system organs), the immensely complex immune system and the various interactions of these systems offer much that, when understood, can prove fascinating and useful to people with various psychological and physiological disorders. Dr.Urmi Biswas, the reader of Dept. of Psychology in the university, said, "In the present study, we are trying to see the effect of hypnotherapeutic interventions by positive thought-induction process on the people suffering from the disease. The research will be of two phases. In the first phase, 40 patients were allowed and they have been regularly attended by doctors for the last eight weeks." She further said, "In the second phase of the study, we are planning to study the effect of hypnotherapy on immune system of HIV+ individuals."The superintendent of hospital for Mental Health, Dr. Ajay Chauhan, said "The hypnotherapy is a powerful tool to create positive induction and reduce depression and emotional stress.". The patients of AIDS or HIV+ are heavily suffering from these stress and depression. With the help of the therapy, they will be successful in creating a positive resistance against the psychological hazards.Consultant psychologist and hypnosis expert Dr. Prashant Bhimani said "We have already tried this therapy on the kidney patients at the Kidney institute at Ahmeadabad long back. During our research, we got marvellous results.""The immune hypnosis is used to nullify the stress and improve the mental state of the patients. But for disease like AIDS and HIV+, deep hypnosis therapy will help to create positive results in the patients."
