Parties, voters toast to Sunday polling
Workers of political parties distributed alcohol and freebies on eve of second phase of elections

Despite deployment of thousands of police officials, there were widespread reports of free distribution of alcohol, consumable items, and other stuff by supporters of the political parties in areas like Chamanpura, Rakhial and Shahpur on the eve of the second phase of elections.The activity was especially intensive in Chamanpura area of Asarva constituency where party workers were not leaving any stone unturned to win the voters in their favour. In addition to distributing liquor among residents, freebies were used in the area to win over female voters. Most of the party offices became ideal places to play card bazzis. The political parties became generous in awarding 'election time privileges' to groups of local workers and community leaders. The party workers desperate to woo the voters descended the slums near the railway tracks in Chamanpura at around midnight. They were making last minute efforts to satisfy the voters. A local supporter of a political party said, "Parties are not taking any chance."The condition was not very different in Rakhial and Shahpur, where freebies and booze were distributed freely to attract the voters. Several party supporters were seen standing in the street corners holding plastic bags containing 'gifts' for the voters.The activity at the place continued till 2 am. While Khadia, the BJP stronghold, celebrated the eve with fafdas. Around 300 supporters of the BJP were served with snacks at 1.30 am.
