Std IX students evaluating SSC papers?
Two schools in Bharuch have employed students in answer-sheet evaluation work

Those believing that Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has a proper process to evaluate the answer-sheets should give it a second thought. Results of the just-concluded SSC examinations may be a shocker. For, students of Std IX have been involved in evaluation of the answer sheets of SSC students at two schools of Bharuch - Shanti Niketan Vidyalay and Narayan Vidhyalay. While DNA brought up the matter with the higher officials of GSHSEB, they were unaware of the situation. They, however, confirmed there was no such provision of involving students or other people into checking answer-sheets, as proper examiners are employed for the purpose and paid for the work. The board representatives at these schools are apparently unaware of the rules. The coordinator of the paper checking centre admitted that the students were being involved in various procedures of the evaluation. Around 12 to 18 students of standard IX have been assisting the teachers in checking the answer sheets. After the Bharuch DEO received complaints, he instructed the officials at the centre to stop the exercise of taking help from the students. The teachers are busy evaluating the answer-sheets, as the results are to be declared by the end of May or the beginning of June. (With inputs from Paras K Jha)
