Most child workers from Guj-Raj border
Complaints about children involved in strenuous work growing

The districts of Gujarat bordering Rajasthan are the hubs for child labour in the state, said vice president of National Child Labour Board Jyoti Sethia.Talking to media persons during her visit to Vadodara, she said, "I have visited 11 districts in the state. Child labour in Gujarat is quite low." However, Sethia pointed out that she had received complaints about growing child labour in the border districts of Gujarat-Rajasthan. She said, "I have discussed this problem with the state government and it has said steps soon be taken to eradicate child labour from the border districts." Sethia added the labour commissioners of both the states will meet and solve the problem. She said, "We have received complaints that child labourers are recruited to pluck tobacco leaves in Anand and Kheda districts. A number of child workers are also engaged in kilns in Vadodara district. I have ordered officials to probe into the matter."It is estimated that India has 1,26,663,70 child labourers in the world, said Sethia. Talking about the 11th Five Year Plan, she said, "As many as 29 districts of the country will come under the National Child Labour Project (NCLP) while 1,800 special schools will be started for child labourers. To encourage NCLP in various states, we will start various awards for those involved in stamping out child labour."
