Following the serial bomb blasts in Jaipur, Vadodara police on Wednesday said all those wanting to purchase a bicycle will now have to furnish some proof of identity. Vadodara police officials held a meeting on Wednesday where the issue was discussed. It was finally decided that customers should submit a copy of some identification papers while purchasing bicycles. The rule has come into immediate effect and a notification will be soon published in this regard. Police commissioner Rajan Priyadarshi said, "After the Jaipur incident, it has been proved that the terrorists have mostly switched over to bicycles to fix bombs for blasts. The reason is that bicycles are easily available and no proof is required in order to purchase them. Keeping these points in mind, we have decided to ask the traders to maintain a record of customers who come to purchase bicycles. A customer has to submit a proof of identity before purchasing a bicycle."Inspector Kaushik Pandya from the detection of crime branch, Vadodara said, "We had called an urgent meeting of traders engaged in selling bicycles late on Wednesday evening. Around 15 traders were present in the meeting. We have asked them to maintain a record of customers and take identification proofs of the buyers before selling bicycles." Pandya said identifications proofs include ration cards, election cards or any other documents that could establish the identity of a person.
