Big Bazaar, the retail chain promoted by the Future group, now plans to enter small towns of Gujarat, such as Bharuch, Vapi and Mehsana. The move will give these towns their first taste of the superstore experience.Big Bazaar entered Vadodara on Friday, with the launch of its hypermarket at 7Seas Mall. This is the chain's eighth store in the state, following five in Ahmedabad, and one each in Surat and Rajkot. Future Group has previously launched its other brand, Pantaloon, in the city.In an exclusive conversation with DNA Money, Anand Adukia, zonal chief, Pantaloon retail India, said: "Being a tier II city, Vadodara has a large middle class population. So, we are confident of tremendous success. Gujarat is always regarded as a testing ground for any retail company. If the company performs well in Gujarat, it can flourish in any other state. We plan to enter smaller towns now, beginning with Bharuch. We will soon branch out to Vapi, Bhavnagar and Mehsana as well." Talking about the firm's strategy to target small towns, Adukia said: "We want to be the trendsetters in the small towns. People in small towns were not habituated to the multiplex experience till multiplexes went there.”
