Professional from insurance and banking looking for opportunities in retail

The booming retail sector has attracted many aspiring professionals to shift from other industries to retail sector. While the academies are also keen to start courses in retail management to benefit from the 'boom'.The upcoming malls, supermarkets, hypermarkets and other retail chain stores in the state have created a tremendous demand of the human resource in the retail sector. This lucrative sector is attracting many professionals from other sectors as well.Shriram Pandya, a professional in banking sector, earning an annual package of 1.5lakh per annum said, “I am eagerly looking for opportunities in the retail sector. Their will be great demand of professionals in days to come. So I am looking for a good offer from some of the retail giants who are coming to Gujarat.” Talking about the shift from banking to retail sector he said, “There are many professionals in this field, so there is a huge competition within the professionals to achieve targets. As far as retail sector is concerned, the human resource is far less than the vacancies.”It is the case with Om Patel, a marketing professional working with a private insurance company. He said, “The banking sector is facing lot of pressure due to given high targets. Moreover, the customer is usually in dilemma to chose for one insurance over the over. While in the retail sector, it is easy to convince the customer's. I want to shift to the retail sector as it has tremendous scopes.”A placement executive mainly indulged in placing the professionals in insurance companies said, “Around 50% of the clients, who are eligible sales manager or deputy sales manager are inquiring about the retail sector jobs. They are keen to shift the field as floor manager in the retail get a better package than sales manger.” Talking to DNA the zonal chief of Pantaloons retails India, Anand Adukia said, “There are tremendous scopes of growth in the retail sector especially in human resource.” The universities are also introducing various courses in the retail management. The in-charge director of continuing adult education at MSU BL Raina said, “Large numbers of students walk in inquiring about the courses in the retail management. So we have introduced a diploma course in the retail management from June 2008. However the student strength is limited to 50 for the first year.”
