Threat letters trigger panic
VSE, ST Depot, BoB and two newspaper houses received bomb threats
Maulik Buch. Vadodara
Thursday was a panic day for Barodians, as Vadodara Stock Exchange (VSE), Bank of Baroda (Mandavi), ST Depot and two newspaper houses received letters threatening bomb blasts. All the letters were received in a gap of few hours at the institutions. VSE received a letter stating that a bomb had been planted inside the VSE building. It made a reference to SIMI but the content was confusing. The stock exchange authorities immediately informed about the threat letter to the police officials, who along with bomb and dog squads checked every nook and corner of the office in the building. However, they heaved a sigh of relief when nothing suspicious was found. Soon after the checking was over, the squad officials had to rush to ST Depot where a same kind of letter was received. Here too nothing objectionable was found. This was followed by threat letters at two newspaper offices and Bank of Baroda at Mandavi. The bomb squad rushed to the places and checked them thoroughly. In the bank, all cupboards and locker rooms were checked. The dog and bomb squads were on their toes throughout the day. This was the second bomb threat that the city received in three days. On Tuesday, the MSU was evacuated following a bomb threat, which proved to be a hoax. Number plates on cars used in Ahmedabad blasts bore Vadodara numbers. The terrorists who executed a series of bomb blasts in Ahmedabad had also purportedly stopped at Vadodara for sometime when they drove down from Navi Mumbai. Besdies, newspapers with Vadodara dateline were used to wrap live bombs that were recovered and defused in Surat.
