Shock and trauma for Jhagadiya villagers
Police arrest four of the 12 accused in the crime

The Gujarat government may be busy boasting its efforts in saving the girl child, the women in the state were never so unsafe. Gangrape of a tribal girl at the outskirts of Jhagadiya on February 2 has led to a massive outrage in the area. The tribal girl was allegedly raped by 12 persons for about two hours in the bushes near the mission ground. A complaint was launched only when the mother of the girl showed courage and spoke about the incident. The villagers of Jhagadiya have given a bandh call on February 14 to protest the incident.According to the complaint lodged at Jhagadiya police station, there was an annual function organised at Diwan Dhanjisha High School at Jagadia on February 2. Dignitaries such as BJP state chief Bharat Singh Parmar were present in the function. The tribal girl, a student of the school, was accompanied to the venue by Vipul Patel, a neighbour.As the programme was delayed, the two went to Khandubhai Tekri, on the outskirts of Jhagadiya in the evening. They were sharing some intimate moments, when about a dozen youth, all aged between 18 and 20, rushed towards them on bikes. While one of them, identified by the girl as Bobby, forced her to sit on his bike, another, called Kishan, held her tightly on the bike. Some others forced Vipul on another bike and carried both of them to the Mission ground, where they tied Vipul with a rope with a tree and covered his mouth. He was also assaulted and fell unconscious for some time.All the 12 raped the girl by turn. She was also beaten for opposing the barbarian act. As the victim turned unconscious, the alleged rapists panicked. Still, before leaving the spot, they removed jewellery from the girl's body and Vipul's mobile.The victim regained her consciousness around the midnight. She untied Vipul and both returned to village in early morning, said the complaint.Inspector of Jhagadiya police station, DD Damor, said, "We have intensified search for the accused."A late evening report said four of the 12 accused had been arrested. Those arrested have been identified as Brijesh alias Bhalo Keval Vasava (22), Mukesh alias Chilli Suresh Vasava (23), Nitinpuni Ratilal Vasava (20) and Prakash alias Adul Udaisingh Vasava(22)DySP and investigation officer of the case, Narendrasingh Raijada, said, "We have sent the victim for medical examination at the nearby community health centre."The incident has come as a major shock for the Jhagadiya villagers. Deputy sarpanch of Jagadia, Vijaybhai Chauhan, said, "This incident has shocked us and the entire village is in trauma."
