Govt boosts security at Vadodara girls hostels
Deployment of at least 2 guards at each hostel in Vadodara district made mandatory

The state government has deployed private security guards at four government-run hostels in Vadodara and ten others in the district. The step has been taken as a preventive measure after the Patan incident.The safety and security of female inmates at government hostels emerged as a matter of concern after the Patan incident. DNA had recently carried a detailed report on the state of such hostels in the state. The report had brought into open that Mira Hostel run by the welfare department had only one security guard and the warden left the hostel premise after 6 pm. The state government has hired a private security agency for the 14 hostels run by the government in Vadodara district. The government has ordered to deploy two security guards at each hostel. It has also given powers to deploy more guards depending on the number of inmates and the situation. Talking to DNA, welfare officials said, "The deployment of private security guards is a preventive measure keeping in mind the Patan case". The security will be deployed at hostels located in Karelibaug, Akota, JP Road, and Nizampura. Security guards will be deployed at five hostels in Chotta-Udaipur, three in Pavi Jetpur and one hostel each in Dabhoi and Naswadi of Vadodara district.Head of the Baroda security agency, Ravi Kumar, said, "As per government orders, we have deployed 31 security personnel at 14 hostels of Vadodara district. Our female security officers will conduct surprise visits at every hostel and confirm the functioning hostels and security of inmates."
