What was slated to be the first wedding anniversary celebrations turned into mourning as a pall of gloom descended in the house of Pradeep Modi, who died in the Shakunt hotel collapse in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Pradeep had, along with his wife Mayuri, gone to Ahmedabad on Saturday to finalise a house deal after landing a job in the city. Event though their first marriage anniversary fell on February 2, they chose not to go celebrating because of the new job. Pradeep, a resident of Satyanarayan Township in Subhanpura, was planning to shift to Ahmedabad after arranging for a rented house.According to neighbours, after seeing houses in different areas of Ahmedabad, they had finally opted for one .As they had been asked by the owner to take the possession on Sunday after the initial procedure, they put up in Hotel Shakunt. According to sources, the couple was having their morning breakfast when the building came crashing down. As soon as the family members of the couple got the message of the collapse, they rushed to Ahmedabad. Pradeep could not be traced initially, while Mayuri was sent to a government hospital for treatment in a critical condition. Finally, Pradeep, who had received severe injuries, was traced to Shardaben Hospital but declared dead by hospital officials. Later, the body was handed over to the family members. The cremation took place in his hometown Patan on Sunday itself.
