"Justice might have been delayed but if can't be denied to us." This was the common refrain of the kin of Godhra train massacre accused after they heard about the decision to keep Noel Parmar out of the newly-formed SIT. In fact, Parmar's ouster has not only thrilled them but also provided a ray of hope to this 'distressed lot'. "Now, we can expect a free and fair probe into the entire incident," said Saeed Umarji, son of one of the accused Maulana Husen Umarji. Saeed spearheaded the protest against inclusion of Parmar in the new SIT. The family members of the accused believed that the culprits should be punished but the innocent should not be tortured anymore. "We are now sure that those who have been wrongly implicated in the case will get justice. SIT should carry out a probe without intervention from any quarter. Inclusion of Parmar had created a sense of dissatisfaction among us. But now we are happy that he is finally out," said a relative of another accused with a sigh of relief. Aziza Khanam, wife of accused Inayat Jujara who used to work as a senior clerk at the Panam dam project department, said, "On the fateful day, we cautioned him (Inayat) about the tension that had gripped the city. He was coming back home on his bicycle, when some police officials stopped him and started interrogation. He had forgotten to sign the muster roll that day." According to the chargesheet, Inayat was one of the persons who egged on the mob at the carnage site. With tears rolling down, Aziza said, "The new SIT has brought a glimmer of hope for us. We have been facing a lot of problems and struggling to make ends meet. I am waiting for the day when my husband comes out of the jail. He is innocent." Some other family members, on the condition of the anonymity, said, "Had Parmar been in the SIT, we would not have been able to share the details with the investigating team. Now, we are confident that SIT will reveal the truth.”
