8 prisoners flee Halol jail, 4 caught
Failed escapees were held in Vadodara; but jailbreaks rise across the state

Prisoners escaping from the states jails seem to have become a routine affair and every time they have come up with ingenious methods to wrest freedom.In the latest such incident eight prisoners serving sentence at the Halol sub jail for house breaking escaped after hoodwinking the police on Monday night. The prisoners cut the ventilation bars of their cell with a hacksaw. They then pulled apart the remaining bars with a blanket and escaped.Though the Vadodara police managed to nab four of the prisoners, the rest are still absconding. Earlier 11 prisoners managed to escape from a police van on the Vadodara-Ahmedabad Express highway after injuring the escorting policemen.Jailbreaks were also reported from Borsad and the Dahod. The last jail break incident occurred in Jamnagar jail when members of the Satnari gang escaped by scaling the wall of the jail. According to Halol police officials, thirty under trial prisoners accused in various cases were shifted to three different barracks at the Halol sub jail on Monday evening.This shifting was part of a routine procedure. The 10 prisoners of barrack no 3 were found to be sound asleep till 2 am on Tuesday. Around 5 in the morning, a guard on patrol found that the barrack had only two prisoners. The guard informed Halol police officials who rushed to the barrack to assess the situation. Investigations revealed that the a few iron bars of the ventilators were cut while the rest were stretched to create space for a person to pass through it. Police suspect that the prisoners might have used hacksaw to cut the iron bars.Soon higher officials were informed of the incident and a state-wide alert was sounded. Two prisoners of the barrack Indramangiri Gosai and Rajkumargiri Gosai when interrogated seemed to be ignorant of the incident.
