Rising veg prices leave people fretting
Inflation, irregular rain push prices of vegetables to a level, making peoples life tough

Inflationary trend coupled with irregular rains have resulted in 20% hike in vegetable prices since a fortnight in Vadodara. The increase in vegetable price has sent the domestic budget into a tailspin. Homemakers are fed up with constant haggling with the vegetable vendors. Apart from the inflation, inadequate rains have triggered the prices of many products to rise stupendously. The vegetable suppliers in the wholesale market are selling their stuff at 7% to 10% more than the usual price. A wholesaler of vegetables, Shyam Mali, said, "There has been an increase in vegetables price for the last 15 days. One kg of lemon is priced at Rs60 and one kg of potato is Rs10/ and the prices will only escalate if the dry spell continues. The price of potatoes may rise to Rs25 per kg in August as it is in high demand during the fast in Shravan month. The price of bringal has also increased to Rs22 per kg. It was priced Rs15 per kg a fortnight ago."The price hike in leafy vegetables and bhaji is around 75%. Spinach, which was available at Rs5 for 500 gram has risen to Rs9 per 500 gram. The prices of other leafy vegetables have also shot through the roof.
