The Regional Transport Office (RTO) has introduced the facility of informing vehicle owners the registration number of their vehicles through SMS. The statewide SMS facility was first introduced in Ahmedabad a few months back. It is now available at RTOs in two other cities, Vadodara and Surat. An applicant does not have to go back to the RTO to collect his vehicle's registration number after his application for a registration number has been passed. The RTO will send the registration number through an SMS to his cell phone. To check the availability of a registration number of his choice, a vehicle owner can call the RTO on 9427300007 or Sms TWSN (for two-wheelers) or FWSN (for four-wheelers) with a 3 followed by the number of his choice. Seeking a special number for your vehicle? Now help is at hand with the Regional Transport Office's recently initiated vehicle registration facility through SMS.The state wide SMS facility was first launched in Ahmedabd a few months back and until recently is open for RT offices in two metros Vadodara and Surat. Now there is no need to go back to RTO office to collect the vehicle registration number after the passing procedures are over, as the RTO department will message you the registration numbers on your mobile phone. The Chief RTO officer of Vadodara Jagdish Dodia said "With the new concept of informing the vehicle owners about their vehicle registration numbers via SMS, the long queues to obtain the vehicle registration numbers will come to end" To check the availability of the registration number of ones' choice, an applicant can SMS RTO to 9427300007 or Sms TWSN (two-wheelers) and FWSN (for four-wheelers) Three followed by the number of choice. The public-utility service is sponsored by any local vehicle dealers Surat's regional transport officer H M Mirza agrees that introduction of the facility has seen a considerable rise in revenue income for selling special registration numbers. As per current charges, a vehicle owner is required to pay Rs 500 for two-wheelers and Rs 3000 for four-wheelers to secure a special number.On receiving confirmation for the availability of the special registration number, the vehicle owner needs to deposit the requisite charges at the local RTO. On confirmation of registering the number the RTO sends a SMS to the applicant.
