“We need to set up animal hostels in the villages of the state,” said Chief Minister Narendra Modi in Vadodara on Sunday. He was speaking at a function marked to celebrate 50 years of the co-operative movement of Baroda dairy.Addressing a mammoth crowd, he said, “Nowadays, its tough for the young generation to pursue the animal husbandry profession in a traditional style. So, animal hostels for milching cattle should be set up on an experimental basis. The cattle owners will admit them in hostels with other cattle from various villages. The expenditure of rearing the cattle will be shared by the owners jointly. Scientific approach should be adopted in these hostels.”The CM pointed out the hostels can also supply gobar gas to villages, which will reduce expenditure on fuel and prove eco-friendly. He urged the members of the milk society to donate a small quantity of milk everyday. The donated quantity of milk will be served to children of the anganwadi in the same village, which will entail a healthy future generation in the villages, he added. Slamming the Centre, he said, “The central government has adopted a biased approach towards Gujarat. It collects Rs40,000 crore as taxes from the state but does not provide it the required facilities. But Gujarat will not stop its growth and will be a major development hub by 2010.”Apart from the golden jubilee celebrations, the dairy officials were also happy as the government has decided to make Narmada water available at the dairy for its day-to-day work.Chairman of Baroda dairy Madhu Srivastav said, “During the initial years, the dairys turnover was Rs1 crore. Its current turnover is Rs339 crore. The waters of Narmada will now be provided to Baroda dairy for its daily use, which will add to its revenue. Till now, the expenditure made on water was Rs47 lakh which will get reduced to Rs18lakh. We have urged Adanis to cut the fuel expenditure. We are spending about Rs 97,000 per day on fuel, which will brought down to Rs35,000 if Adanis come up with the gas line at Baroda dairy.”
