The six petrochemical, chemical and petroleum investment regions (PCPIRs) will have the opportunity to attract global investments at the India Chem 2008 International Exhibition and Conference. The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the Indian Chemical Council (ICC), have organised an industry meet at Vadodara for the promotion of India Chem 2008 and the PCPIRs. This time, Gujarat has been declared the guest state while West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh have been declared as partner states of the event. Maharashtra will host the event which will be held in Mumbai on October 20-22. Vadodara hosted an industry meet to promote the event on Thursday. The event, held every alternate year, provides a platform to the Indian chemical industry to showcase its potential to an international audience. Further, the participation of major global players in the chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical sectors exposes the Indian industry to international developments. Addressing industry representatives, VS Sampath, secretary of department of chemicals and petrochemicals, government of India, said: “The response to the PCPIR policy has been very encouraging. In this scenario, the exhibition will provide great opportunities for B2B (business to business) interaction, leading to the conclusion of business deals for trade, collaboration, technology adoption and upgradation. Around 350 executives are expected to participate, from countries including Germany, Belgium, China, Japan, and France.” He added, “Six states have submitted their proposals for PCPIR in their coastal areas. With PCPIR materialising on schedule, India will emerge as a leading player in the chemical and petrochemical fields. The central government will provide the external physical infrastructure linkages, while the state governments will do the internal linkages.”
