The officials of Bank of Baroda, Bodeli branch, came forward on Friday to extend a helping hand to the family members of victims of Wednesday's bus accident. The bank staff went to the doorstep of every villager and assisted them in filling up the form to open their bank account. DNA had reported that majority of the victims' families didn't even have a bank account to encash the compensation cheques. The government had declared an ex gratia of Rs1.5 lakh to the next of the kin of all the victims. Three ministers distributed the compensation cheques to the family members of the victims on Thursday. But majority of them, being farm labours, didn't have a bank account. DNA had reported that government officials had said they would help the bereaved families to open bank accounts in any of the nationalized banks so that they can deposit their cheques. On Friday, the Bank of Baroda officials visited every door of the village and offered them their services. A bank official said, "We have helped the family members of the victims to fill up the application form for opening the savings account. Other formalities will also be completed soon. Within a day or two, their accounts would be opened in the bank and the compensation cheques deposited."
