Six inmates of Nizampura Girls Conservation Home have joined the NCC, Vadodara. The girls were full of enthusiasm and said, "We want to become pilot and serve the nation."The inmates of the conservation home are usually kept away from the community, apart from the school hours. The Nizampura home officials, however, took initiative and came up with an innovative idea to cultivate discipline, patriotism and zeal to fight with adverse situations among the girls. They allowed the girls of the conservation home to join the NCC. Talking to DNA, superintendent of the conservation home Umaben Parikh said, "Even the girls living in conservation home have the right to develop their personality and become a responsible citizen of the country. Every girl staying here should have her own identity in the society. So, we thought of this idea to allow them to join NCC."It was just a co-incidence that some volunteers from the NCC had visited the conservation home couple of months ago. During the orientation lecture, some girls were highly impressed by the discipline and the confidence of the volunteers which they had cultivated by joining NCC. The girls urged the superintendent to allow them to join NCC. The idea clicked with the officials who contacted NCC officials with the proposal. It was a tough task, as there are strict norms for the conservation home inmates. But, it has all been solved now and the six girls from the conservation home studying in 8th standard joined the NCC. The girls are Nidhi Kalidas, Durga Nagappa, Manisha Patel, Sonal Patel, Alpa Patel and Payal Soni. Manisha told DNA, "We got the inspiration from the volunteers who visited our conservation home. We were impressed by their confidence and the way they communicated with us. We also want to be like them." "We also want to compete with others in the society. I want to become a pilot and serve the nation," said Sonal, a wish echoed by all the girls.Group Commander of NCC Col Rahul Bali said, "NCC cadets have always been the first to help in any emergency across the nation. We also propagate community living and discipline. This is the first time that we have admitted inmates of juvenile home."
